Gravesend 2nd July 2026
Despite appearances this is not a radio telescope borrowed from Jodrell Bank. It is a garden sun shade with a failed opening mechanism. We fixed it.
Also repaired were a radio with bad battery connections, a cassette player that needed new drive bands and a domestic charger for EVs (electric cars). Sorry, no photos of these.
But we do have photos of an elderly Singer sewing machine cunningly brought back into service. Its owner is so pleased that she is interested in joining our sewing team.
Other items on the day included a cuckoo clock, a bike with dodgy brakes, an air conditioner, yet more Xmas tree lights and a garden lounger with a gammy leg.
As ever, the café team plied our visitors with tea and biscuits. If any waiting was involved, we had the usual seating area equipped with reading material and, on this occasion, some lovely pen-cases made by our sewing experts.
Please remember that our monthly Repair Cafés are free of charge which includes repairs as well as the tea and biscuits. Many if not most visitors happily donate a few pounds to say thank you which helps us buy tools and rent the hall. Our volunteers don't make a penny, they do it to help their community.
If you are in doubt about whether we can help you with an item for repair drop us a line to ask. GraveshamRepairCafe@gmail.com
