What We Repair
What We Repair at Gravesham Repair Café
All repairs are undertaken at the repairer's discretion. Further, our insurance cover prohibits certain items & activities.
Please remember that we only have the most basic spare parts (fuses, screws, wires etc.) and if parts are needed, we'll help you find a source. We can't always effect a successful repair, but we'll give it a go.
We have a number of 'House Rules' such as one item for repair per visit.
See all our rules
Repairs to the following are:
Generally no problem…
Clothing, bed linen, curtains etc. - buttons, zips, seams, tears ...
Bikes (brakes, tyres, chains, loose parts, etc.). Not electric parts of e-bikes.
Small electricals – radios, music players, desk fans, table lamps ...
Clocks (mechanical & electrical, old and new)
Small appliances - food mixers, coffee machines, toasters ...
Sewing machines – we can cope with simpler repairs and know an expert where we can't.
Mechanical items - toys, tools, door handles, pushchairs ...
Tool & knife sharpening – yes, we now have a sharpening machine.
Problematic…
Microwave ovens – not allowed due to health & safety concerns (insurance)
Old-fashioned Cathode Ray Televisions & monitors - not allowed due to health & safety concerns (insurance)
Electric scooters and the electrical parts of electric bikes - not allowed due to health & safety concerns (insurance)
Smart phones & tablets – not at present. Modern smart phones require specialist tools and parts for repair work as well as someone with sufficient knowledge and experience (which we're short of). Fortunately there are plenty of phone shops offering repair services.
Laptops, computers and games consoles - much the same as with smart phones due to special parts required. There are specialist computer repair shops.
Home visits (for items too large to bring along) – normally no, but you may ask if any repairer is willing.
If you are in doubt, bring your item along and we'll see.
